Kanab Fire Department is a volunteer department serving the citizens of Kanab City and Kane County. We have apparatus consisting of 2 engines, 1 truck, 3 brush trucks, 1 rescue / extrication truck, and the county also houses 2 ambulances at our station. Our main station is located at 601 South 100 East in Kanab. We have a 2nd station in the Ranchos area that is currently used for storage. We have an average of 20 fire personnel on our roster, six of whom are also Emergency Medical Technicians with the Kane County Ambulance Service. We meet weekly on Thursday evenings at 1900 hrs, and train during that time on the different skill we are required to use. We accept applications any time and start new trainees as positions are available on a quarterly basis. Kanab City has a good hydrant system that we use for water supply. We have an agreement with Kane County to provide fire supression to homes in the county and to help with wildland fires. We also have an agreement with Fredonia, Arizona, which is 7 miles to the south. During the year there are several times that we call on each other for help at fire scenes. Another service we provide is the use of our rescue truck. It contains water, lights, and extrication equipment. We run on several automobile accidents each year with the ambulance to help extricate victims from vehicles, to provide scene lighting, or just to provide man power. We have an ISO rating of 5. We try to provide the best possible response and protection we can by keeping current on standards and equipment. For questions or other information, feel free to contact me.
